Jammu Smart City: Several projects approved, timelines set for works at 7th BoD meeting

Jammu: The 7th meeting of Board of Directors of Jammu Smart City Project was held here Monday under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma.
The Board approved various projects/works and also set timelines for completion of various components of the project.
The meeting was attended by IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh; Deputy Commissioner Jammu (Chief Executive Officer, Jammu Smart City), Sushma Chauhan; Commissioner JMC, Avny Lawasa, Chief Engineer JPDCL, Gurmeet Singh; VC JDA, Babila Rakwal, besides other senior functionaries of PWD, Jal Shakti, JSCL and Project Management Consultancy (PMC).
At the outset, the CEO (DC) gave a detailed powerpoint presentation on the works taken up and completed so far besides future work plan for the smart city project. She also presented agenda points for the discussion and approval of various project components by the BoD.
The agendas which were thoroughly discussed in the meeting included approval for issuance of letter of award (LoA) for Two (02) projects i.e. vertical garden on the columns between Dogra Chowk to K.C. Chowk flyover and improvement of ten (10) junctions. It was informed that the project envisages bringing about an overall aesthetic improvement below the flyover and developing green patch to contain pollution.
The proposal involves covering the flyover columns with a vertical garden/ bio wall system to beautify the entire stretch. It will consist of a framework for holding the bio wall pots and shall comprise drip irrigation too.
It was informed that work on bore well has been completed, while work on other components is in progress.
The meeting was informed the tendering process is progress on for purchase of RC bins, refuse compactor vehicles, Reverse Vending Machines for plastic, dustbins, IT applications for procurement of equipment and handling of solid waste management through e-tendering/GeM.
The Board also discussed the progress on upgrading and modernization of fire fighting equipments, Smart Surveillance, Smart Nakas and CCTV Centre. It was informed that 11 smart Police nakas are proposed to be establish in the city.
The board decided that Rooftop solar panels on RESC model would be installed at 6 to 7 offices initially for which Chief Engineer JPDCL-Projects has been directed to prepare a DPR and submit within week’s time.
Other components of the project were also discussed thoroughly including modernization of Narwal fruit/vegetable Mandi for which DPR has been Prepared, Emergency Response System, Intelligent Traffic Management System, illumination, restoration of heritage buildings, construction of community toilets, developmental of cycle tracks at Channi Himmat and Gandhi Nagar areas and other works of projects.
The DC (CEO) also presented various projects which could be selected for approval and implementation including battery operated cars, under ground cabling for power supply, smart water meters and others. The board has also selected/ approved number of projects for implementation and the concerned Departments were asked to make project reports.
The Divisional commissioner issued directions to the concerned officers to expedite the works being taken up by their respective departments for early completion.
The Div Com directed concerned officers to keep ambit of project for longer horizon and expedite work in a time bound manner so that tangible results are achieved on the ground. He also asked the concerned departments to work in unison with more zeal and dedication for completion of Smart City Project to make Jammu a model city.
