Srinagar: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Srinagar have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered psychotropic substance from their possession.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday police said that officers at a checkpoint established at Parimpora bye-pass opposite Fruit Mandi intercepted two persons riding on a scooty bearing registration number JKO1T-0630 carrying 05 cardboard boxes, adding that, they have been identified as Moin Ahmad Shah resident of Hilalabad Qamarwari Srinagar and Muzaffar Ahmad Lisoo resident of Rampora chattabal A/P Hamdania colony Bemina Srinagar. “During checking, officers recovered 500 bottles of Codeine Phosphate concealed in the cardboard boxes which they were carrying on the scooty, adding that they were arrested and shifted to Police Station Parimpora where they remain in custody”, reads the police statement .
Police also said that a case FIR No. 208/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Parimpora and investigation has been initiated. “Preliminary investigation reveals that both the accused drug peddlers were carrying this huge quantity of psychotropic substance for smuggling in the general area of Srinagar City”, the statement reads.
Police appealed to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Police reiterated its commitment that actions against drug peddlers should reassure the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
