Depression is a mental health disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in everything. The youth of Kashmir are facing this problem due to conflict in Kashmir since last 20 years and also due to some other reasons .The most common age group facing this problem are the youth of 15 to 25 years age group .As, this is the adolescent age various changes takes place in our body and mind. Some psychological factors like hormonal secretions also influence it. Some youth are also falling into depression because of family compulsions as the intent to build their careers make them aspirants of national level exams but unfortunately most of them fail in their endeavours and go into depression. We lost our dear friends due to depression as they think about the achievements of their colleagues who crack national level and enjoys lucrative careers .The ongoing conflict has impacted the lives of youth as majority of the youth suffer in hunt for lucrative careers..The trauma of losing our loved ones day in and day out has taken away precious lives and consequently the depression is attracting huge concern from the people of all shades of opinions. Knowing that majority of the educated Youth are in depression due to unemployment, the people are pained to see youth becoming victims of depression not heading to any dead end .one of my dearest friend who is going all through this told me that no one understands the cause of his depression and as such he doesn’t want to talk to most of his nears and dears .In depression we just didn’t want to be with anyone, we want to enjoy our own life. The figures of depression in Kashmir are utmost surprising as 66.67 cases of depression fall in the age group of 15 to 25 and COVID-19 pandemic has result in unprecedented increase in the cases of depression in Kashmir .

Life is actually not a bed of roses but there are more thorns in it than the roses. Almighty Allah said “verily, in the remembrance of almighty allah hearts find rest”(The Holy Quran 13:28) whosever follows Western culture will fail in his endeavours. Parents should not force their children too much on issues concerning careers and examinations.

Depression is found not only in boys but also in girls and shockingly girls are more vulnerable to the threats of depression than the boys. Kashmir due to conflict continuing for last more than two decades has historically reported widespread prevalence of mental health issues. Nearly 1.8 million adults in Kashmir Valley – 45% of the population – showed symptoms of mental distress according to 2015 survey by the humanitarian organisation MSF said. The survey revealed that 41% of the population showed signs of depression, 26% showed signs of anxiety and 19% showed probable symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).Depression is also cause of some social evils as some depressed people often got involved in drugs to even frustrating situation faced by them for year’s together . Those in depression should consult psychiatrists for proper medical checkups .We shouldn’t skip regular medical checkups and also help our friends and family who are stuck in it.
