Awantipora Police arrests drug peddler, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar: Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police statement issued on Monday said that the officers at a checkpoint established at Batpora crossing intercepted one person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani resident of Beighpora Awantipora and during searches, officers were able to recover 10 Kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession. “The detained Beighpora resident has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora, where he remains in custody” , the statement reads.
Police in it’s statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 125/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.
Police has also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, warning therein that persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace”, reads the statement.
