Slathia seeks restoration of monsoon-rains hit utility services

Vijaypur: Former minister and senior National Conference leader Surjeet Singh Slathia Monday lamented over the widening gap between the people and the administration, saying this has led to a precarious situation leading to accumulation of public problems.
“Power scarcity has been the biggest problem, the people of Jammu especially in rural areas are facing in the humid monsoon”, Slathia said during third leg of his mass contact programme, while interacting with the residents of village Karmore Camp, Rangoor, Babral and Nanga of Block Ramgarh in Vijaypur Constituency.
He said unscheduled power cuts for longer duration does not only cause hardships to the people but also impact water supply. The situation becomes worse during nights due to power failure for hours. This needs to be looked into for corrective measures, he said, hoping that the administration would make it mandatory for the field staff to adhere to schedules in respect of power and drinking water in particular. Similarly, other utility services are needed to be made optimally functional and road communication upgraded and improved for hassle free vehicular movement.
Slathia hoped that the administration would rise to the occasion and prepare a contingency plan for meeting the challenges unfolded by the incessant rains, landslides and flash floods. Every possible step is needed to be taken to avert damages to infrastructure. He said the road network needs special attention as these have been damaged due to rains in most of the rural areas.
The Former Minister exhorted the cadre to reach out to the people during these grim days of pandemic and highlight issues facing them at appropriate levels for redressal. He lauded the front-line COVID warriors for their inspirational service at the peril of their own and that of their families well-being. They deserve acknowledgment for the excellent work they are doing to meet the challenge. He was accompanied by senior functionaries of National Conference during his public outreach programme.
