Kupwara: The officials of the neighboring countries including India and Pakistan held a flag meeting at Teethwal area in Karnah sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The meeting as per the officials was held to receive the teeth and hair of a General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) official posted in Ladakh for DNA sampling to ascertain the identity of a body recovered by Pakistan.
Officials said a well coordinated meet of the officials from Indian side comprising of a team from Ladakh received the teeth and hair of a body believed to be that of an GREF, AEE posted in Ladakh, who went missing from Kargil after a road accident for DNA sampling to ascertain the identity.
An official said that in a road accident at Kargil, in Ladakh Union Territory back on 22-06-2020, an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) identified as Sobahan Ali, from Uttar Pradesh, working in GREF, a wing of Indian Defense, went missing following which a communication about the recovery of a body from Pakistan side was received.
He said after the top level discussion, a meeting was fixed this morning, which took place at around 11:00 AM in the morning in presence of Army, police, administrative officials and a team of officials from Ladakh.
“The team from Indian side received the teeth and hair of the body recovered by Pakistan, for Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests to verify the identity of the body lying with Pakistan,” the official said.
The official also said that the representatives those who participated in the meeting include, Lt Col Bhanu Pratap Singh, SHO Mudasir Ahmed PS, SI Md Bakir Laddak, SI Ab Rahman, besides other official from police, Muhammad Salman Deputy Magistrate, Laddak, Naib Tehsildar Abdul Rashid Dar, Deputy Magistrate Karnah.
The official further said that from the Pakistan side, Maj Sheryar, Tehsildar Harun Rashid and other officials participated in the meeting.
After the examination of DNA samples, it will come to the fore whether the body recovered by Pakistan is that of an official of GREF posted in Ladakh, he said
