Decide on no- confidence motion against Dy Mayor SMC: HC directs authorities

Srinagar: The High Court on Friday directed authorities to decide on no- confidence motion against deputy mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Disposing off a petition, the High Court today directed the respondents to take final call on the motion moved by against deputy mayor of SMC.
“Keeping in view the averments made in writ petition and having regard to submissions made on behalf of the official respondents that they may be given 14 days’ time to consider the motion, I deem it appropriate to dispose of this writ petition, directing the respondents to take final call on the motion moved by petitioners strictly under rules and regulations,” the High Court directed .
The Court further directed the authorities that if the motion is strictly under rules and regulations, the deputy mayor shall prove his majority on the floor of the house of Srinagar Municipal Corporation by or before 29.08.2020.
“However, the SOPs issued from time to time to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing shall be strictly adhered to,” the court said.
The petitioner, the councilors of SMC, had approached the High Court seeking directions to the respondents to immediately convene the special meeting of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to consider and put to vote the resolution of no-confidence moved by the majority of the deputy mayor.
During hearing of the case, Momin Khan, counsel appearing for SMC submitted that that, at least, 14 days time is required to consider the motion moved by petitioners that too under rules and regulations occupying the field
