GCET hosts Webinar on “Emerging Era of IOT- Cyber Physical Systems: the Interdisciplinary Aspects”

Jammu:The Computer Engineering Department of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu Tuesday organised a Webinar on “Emerging Era of IOT and Cyber Physical Systems: the Interdisciplinary Aspects” in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, UIET Chandigarh, under Twinning Initiatives of TEQIP, to familiarize the faculty and students with the thrust area.
The webinar was held under the Chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohella.
The webinar was attended by around 150 participants comprising of students and faculty of various engineering institutes and organizations besides GCET Jammu & UIET Chandigarh and made the event a grand success. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Nirmal Kour, Associate Professor, UIET Chandigarh.
Associate Professor, Department of Electronics Engineering IIT (BHU), Varanasi, Dr. N.S. Rajput, was the keynote speaker. He talked about the thrust areas of IOT applications including Usage of NLP (Natural Language Processing) in Intelligent Systems, importance of Data Centre in Intelligent Systems, Edge Computing, Cloud Computing & Data Transformation Method. He also explained the concepts of an Intelligent System citing an example of “ALEXA” which has become very popular in our households Tuesday.
He threw light on the role of IOT in Agriculture & Environment monitoring, Smart Water Management, Smart City Infrastructure, Smart Dairy Farming and many more. He is member of National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), Govt. of India, and an Indian Grid Certification Authority for access to National and International supercomputing Grid.
The session was highly interactive and the students and faculty of various institutions put forth a number of questions.
Principal GCET, Dr. Sameru Sharma, appreciated the efforts of the organizing/coordinating team comprising of Dr. Simmi Dutta, Head Computer Engineering Department, Dr. Bhawna Sharma & Er. Sheetal Gandotra Associate Professors Computer Engineering Department, besides student members.
Earlier, Associate Professor, GCET Jammu & Webinar Coordinator, Dr. Bhawna Sharma, welcomed the participants and guided the proceedings.
