Jammu: To facilitate better return of growers’ produce and to decongest the notified yards and the main market yard, a Direct Farmers’ Market was Monday inaugurated here at Ward No. 21, Near Lakashmi Narayan Mandir, Gandhi Nagar.
S. Tajinder Singh, Member State Agriculture Marketing Board Jammu inaugurated the facility in presence of Chief Agriculture Officer, Farooq Ahmed Bhatt and Area Marketing Officer Jammu, Priya Parihar.
Sub Divisional Agriculture officer, S. Narinder Paul Singh; AGMO Bishnah, S.R. Sangra; AEO Surinder Gupta and other Officials from Agriculture and Horticulture (P&M) Department were present on the occasion.
The residents of Gandhi Nagar appreciated the efforts of the department of the Horticulture Planning & Marketing for providing them farm fresh vegetables and fruits at their door steps.
The growers assured the residents of Gandhi Nagar that they will sell Farm fresh and Organic vegetables. Sanitizers and Masks were also distributed among the farmers.
This initiative was taken on the instructions of the Principal Secretary, Naveen K Choudhary as per the Government orders issued on Direct Marketing and subsequently authorization of the Department of Horticulture (P&M) as Nodal agency under the ordinance issued by GOI i.e Farmers Trade and commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) ordinance 2020. These steps will not only boost the economy of the UT but also play a pivotal role in enhancing and doubling the farmers’ income.
