Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Saturday celebrated 74th Independence day at Srinagar Party Office and held flag hoisting ceremony.
Senior Party leaders and workers in a function held at Srinagar Party Office celebrated 74th Independence day with great enthusiasm and exchanged greetings and also distributed sweets on this occasion.
The participants described the occasion as manifestation of countless sacrifices given by thousands of freedom fighters, who fought against British that ruled India for a long time.
The leaders recalled the selfless services and sacrifices of freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for the prestige and honour of the Nation and achieved freedom, as a result India became a sovereign country.
The Nation will continue to remain indebted to father of the Nation and thousands of freedom fighters who gave their blood for the Nation and forced British rulers to leave India.
The Independence day marks the end of British rule in 1947 and the establishment of Independent Nation. This is the day to remember our freedom fighters, who fought against the Colonial Rule and achieved freedom, they said.
On this occasion, Congress leaders lauded the selfless services of Congress Party under the leadership of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and many other Party stalwarts, who worked tirelessly to make the India a vibrant democracy & developing country, in which every religion and culture enjoyed equal rights without any disparity, as result, India being a largest democracy was combination of different cultures, languages and shades , they said.
Taking the opportunity of 74th Independence day, The leaders appealed the people across the country to wake up and save the democracy and democratic institutions, which were facing great challenges under the ruling dispensation.
The democratic institutions established post independence have remained a big source of service and respite to common people irrespective of their religion or language, but it was very unfortunate that these (institutions) were being eroded under a well-planned conspiracy, which has to be defeated in the interest of largest democracy of world (India) and its people, they added.
JKPCC wished people a very happy independence day, hoping that they (people) will rise to the occasion to save the democracy and secular fabric of the country, which was the unique identity of our great Nation, they said.
