J&K Police busts Lashkar’s financing racket in Jammu, six held

Jammu: Police claimed to have busted a finance network of militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba by arresting six people in Jammu district on Saturday.
In a statement issued here on Saturday a police spokesman said that on 19th July, a team of SOG Jammu apprehended one Mubashir Farooq Bhat son of Farooq Ahmed Batt resident of Sazan, Doda with consignment of Rs 1.5 lakh Indian Currency concealed in a Tiffin Box.
He said that a case FIR No. 42/2020 U/S 17/18/20/21/38 and 40 of UAPA Act 1967 was registered at Police Station Peermitha, Jammu.
“During investigation of the case SOG Jammu apprehended five more suspects involved in the module namely Toqeer Ahmad Batt son of Ghulam Qadir Batt resident of Sazan, Doda, Asif Batt son Md. Ayoub Bhatt, Khalid Latief Batt resident of Kotal, Doda, Gazi Iqbal son of Mohd. Iqbal resident of Kotal, Doda, and Tariq Hussain Mir son of Shamas Din resident Tanta Doda who have admitted their involvement in the case.”
He said that all the accused were in contact with Pakistani handler namely Haroon alias Khubaib (Mohd. Amin Batt S/O Dawood Batt resident of Kathawa, Thathri.) who remained as district commander of LeT in Doda and exfiltrated to Pakistan in 2006.
The spokesman said that all the accused were tasked to identify gullible youth for recruitment in terror ranks, providing logistics support and strengthening LeT cadre in the region, sharing information about presence of security forces and their important locations to Pakistani handlers.
“Transportation of Arms & Ammunition from one location to another and distributing money among the families of active and deceased militants.”
He further said that during questioning of all accused persons it came to fore that they received money amounting to Rs 12,19,704 through different means on different occasions as part of this module. “They were also instrumental in recruiting Abid Ahmed Bhat (LeT) son of Waliya Bhat resident of Sazan, Doda( Now Killed) Jamal Din (LeT) resident of Doda ( Now Surrendered).”
“During interrogation of suspect namely Mohd. Irfan Khan son of Tariq Hussain resident of Bijarni, Doda (Driver of Tempo JK12-2088 by profession), it came out that in the month of July beginning he along with two associates namely Gazi Iqbal son of Mohd. Iqbal resident of Kotal, Doda (arrested in above mentioned case) & Amir Batt son of Ghulam Qadir Batt resident of Sazan, Doda hoisted Pakistani flag at Lal Draman area as they were tasked by Haroon to do so.”
He said that it has been further corroborated by the disclosure of Gazi Iqbal who admitted that he received call from Pak Handler Haroon for hoisting Pak flag and subsequently he purchased cloth from a local shop at Doda town and stitched that flag by himself solving the case of Doda.
“On 5th of August this year on the disclosure of Tariq Hussain Mir son of Shamas Din resident of Tanta, Doda, SOG Jammu recovered 03 more tiffin boxes from his house including Indian currency 40,700 Rs which he received as consignment on different occasions from Pak handlers as part of this module.”
The spokesman further said that in continuation to the investigation of above mentioned militant financing case the involvement of four accused from Kashmir has also surfaced. “Moreover it has come to the notice that the module has its links in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab as well.”
“Further investigation into the case is underway to unearth militant financing channels and militant associates’ network used for providing financial support and motivating youth for spreading terror in the valley,” the spokesman said
