JK residents posted in Ladakh UT demand immediate repatriation

Srinagar: Desperate to go home, at least 105 employees in different departments from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir posted in newly carved out union territory of Ladakh have demanded immediate repatriation and blamed the “illogical” policies of the government for making them suffer under challenging conditions.
The employees said that around 105 government employees posted in Ladakh prior to bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir have been left at God’s mercy after the government for the third consecutive year failed to repatriate them despite assurances.
The aggrieved employees said the then government assured that all the employees will be deployed on rotation but that never became a reality rather the employees living in parts of the Kashmir and Jammu region were transferred back in the last two years. “But so far neither the Ladakh nor JK administration has shown any seriousness in repartition.”
“We have also met the lieutenant governor of Ladakh but he clearly denied saying that he has no role in their transfer instead the Jammu and Kashmir administration can transfer the employee’s posted here,” the employees said.
They said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration earlier had asked all the non-local employees posted in Ladakh to fill the preference form to ascertain the details but the fate of all those forms is still unknown even after passing of several months.
“Administration has not initiated any process for the transfer of employees who are suffering under these challenging conditions.”
Basheer Ahmad, one of the non-local employees in the education department said that the employees working in Ladakh region often face health related issues and over the months many representations were submitted to LG J&K and Ladakh but there was no positive response from the administration.
He said as per Ladakh transfer policy of education department employees belonging to areas of Leh, Kargil, Mahore and parts of Reasi will have only one year’s stay, however, no transfer of lecturers was made even after completion of 3 years in Ladakh which has impacted the normal life of all including those posted in other departments.
The employees said that most of the employees have been serving in Ladakh for the last 3 years and their tenure has almost matured and few of them are on verge of retirement.
They have sought the intervention of higher ups and sought early repatriation from Ladakh to Jammu and Kashmir.
