Unending row over political detentions

Conflicting stands of both the Jammu & Kashmir Government and the mainstream politicians over the detentions of mainstream leaders has cast shadow over the credibility of both the government and as well as the politicians challenging the detentions. Latest row over the detention of former Union Minister Saif Ud Din Soz has ended with a clarification from the J&K Government’s home department that Soz is not house detained but question can be asked if soz is not house detained then how come the law enforcing authorities have restricted his movement of Soz to the four walls of his residential house at Humhama in the outskirts of Srinagar city. As the government is yet to withdraw PSA slapped on PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, people believe that the government which denied charges of house detaining Saif Ud Din Soz could also deny charges of house detaining Mehbooba under PSA at her Gupkar residence in coming days. Not only Soz but several former legislators are also claiming that they are under house for last several months and as such it has become imperative for the authorities of the J&K Government’s home department to clarify it’s  official position about those house detained by the government for one or the other reason. Unfortunately the precedence of house detaining people connected to separatist politics without any substantial charges has been set by the top mainstream leaders who were heading several popular governments in the past and interestingly they have now themselves become the victims of the flawed house detention policy.

Central Government seeking time for verification of the Lt Governor’s statement before the supreme court of the country itself shows that there is trust deficit between the Lt Governor led J&K administration and the central government. The trust deficit shown in the words of Lt Governor and the central government could also be the cause of conflicting statements over the detentions of political leaders in the top court of the country.

Unfortunately there is no scope for people to even believe the words of Lt Governor Grish Chander Murmu presently running the affairs of the Jammu & Kashmir Government as central government itself told Supreme Court on Monday this week that it will have to verify the statement of the Lt Governor over the Jammu & Kashmir Government’s no objection on restoration of 4 G high speed internet services in Jammu & Kashmir. Question arises that if central government itself raises doubts over the statements of the Lt Governor Grish Chander Murmu , the how come the people Jammu & Kashmir would believe the words of the Lt Governor and other top functionaries of the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
