Two minor boys drown in Ang

Srinagar: Two minor boys drowned to death in Dadi Canal Khiram area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday afternoon.
Officials said two boys identified as Waseem Ahmad Bajard (12) son of Mohammad Ashraf Bajard, a resident of Galan Khiram and Abrar Ahmah Khatana (12) son of Mohammad Ashraf Khatana, a resident of Achdhar Khiram drowned in Sirhama following which locals tried to rescue them, but couldn’t save their lives.
They said soon after the news spread, the locals gathered at the spot while teams of police and local administration immediately started an operation to retrieve their bodies.
Pertinently, in the last 30 days, at least five persons including mother-daughter drowned in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Meanwhile, authorities in Anantnag imposed a complete ban on swimming and bathing in River Jhelum, its tributaries, nallahs, streams and other water bodies within the south Kashmir district.
“In view of threat to human lives due to drowning incidents while bathing/swimming in Rivers / Streams/ Nallahs; and as a precautionary measure, a blanket ban is hereby imposed on swimming / bathing in River Jehlum, its tributaries, nallahs, streams and other water bodies within Anantnag district forthwith,” reads an order issued by deputy Commissioner Anantnag K K Sidha.
“The Tehsildars (Executive Magistrates), Police Officers (SHOs) & Engineers of Jal Shakti Department shall keep strict vigil in their respective areas of jurisdiction to ensure implementation of the order in letter and spirit,” the order, adds
