Pulwama: Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Pulwama Thursday realized a fine of Rs 23000 from offenders under various sections of Motor Vehicles Act during Vehicle Checking Drive (VCD) in the district.
The team led by ARTO, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and other officials checked hundreds of vehicles during the day for overloading, violation of route permits, fitness, pollution norms, over speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, rash driving and other offences.
During the drive, more than 40 vehicles were challaned, whereas 09 vehicles were also black listed.
While sensitizing the drivers regarding traffic rules, ARTO said traffic violation leads to accidents and resulting in the death of hundreds of people on a daily basis. He said adherence to laws can avert most of the road accidents besides making commutation hassle free and added that use of mobile phones, stunting, use of beams during night and not wearing seat belts are common offences which can be easily avoided.
ARTO urged drivers to be mindful of duties and responsibilities while driving and having self restraint in speeding limits is a way forward towards changing driving behaviours.
Commuters were also sensitized about the COVID – 19 and following of various SOPs issued time and again.
