NC tributes Begum Sheikh Abdullah on her 20th death anniversary

Jammu/July,11 : Floral tributes marked the observance of 20th death anniversary of  Begum Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on Saturday at S K Bhavan .

National Conference leaders, after maintaining necessary preventive protocol in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, showered flower petals at the portrait of Begum Akbar Jehan, who relentlessly worked towards female literacy and politico-economic empowerment of the people, especially women and down-trodden segments of society, irrespective of caste, creed, colour and religion. Her contribution during the political struggle of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after the arrest of late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah has been immense, as she carried forward the mission of empowering the people politically. The programme was organized by  Satwant Kour Dogra Provincial President Women Wing Jammu Province.

Meanwhile, in a message, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana paid glowing tributes to Begum Akbar Jehan, saying her role in socio-political empowerment of people in general and female literacy in particular will continue to inspire generations to work for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir.

“History stands testimony to the glorious role played by Begum   to strengthen the bonds of amity and brotherhood between communities and regions”, Rana said adding that her relentless contribution in promoting harmony, female literacy and empowering women in different spheres and working towards the betterment of down-trodden segments of society has been immense. Begum Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah proved to be an affectionate mother, a dynamic leader and a great human being who had concern for the welfare and well-being of the people, he added.  Rana said that a befitting tribute to  would be to carve out a huge role for women in decision making and to bring them in the forefront to lead various disciplines. He said the National Conference has been striving towards this cherished agenda with sincerity of purpose.
