Srinagar: Peoples’ Democratic Front Chairman and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Friday exhorted the central government to immediately restore the identity of Jammu & Kashmir as a state to fulfill its own promises and commitments as otherwise continuing the process of experimentation would have dangerous consequences. He said betrayal of promises as experienced in the past would go against the collective interests of the country.
In a statement issued here on Friday Hakeem advised the central government to immediately restore the identity of Jammu & Kashmir as a state without playing with the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as betrayal of promises would create a deep and huge political void which can’t be filled later. He said the successive central governments’ also carried out measures against the whims and wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir by changing it into an experimentation zone for their petty political interests and urged the central government not to allow the bureaucratic system of governance intensifying the already prevailing trust deficit to last long in Jammu & Kashmir. He said only the immediate restoration of the state identity and return of popular rule woul’d mitigate the sufferings of the people of Jammu and as such central government should immediately fulfill both the promises without any delay and carrying out the process of law making in the absence of a political system and identity as a state.
