Srinagar: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) Gazi Abdul Aziz, has appealed all the teachers unions to join hands with JKTJAC for broader unity in order to strengthen the voice of teachers.
In a statement issued by JKTJAC Chairman, to Kashmir Horizon, the Chairman said, “teachers are suffering with their dozens of service issues, the demand to get them addressed is a legitimate one. So we need to join hands with each other for the common cause of teachers”. Meanwhile he also appealed higher authorities to address all pending issues of teachers who have been waiting for long time. The statement further said that JKTJAC came into existence in the year 2018, at that time thousands of teachers in erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state were in deep distress with their very difficult issue of salary and their future was at stake. That was the time when no teachers union in it’s single capacity was enough to get the issue resolved. Later the TJAC came into existence. The then well-known and dynamic trade union leader Mr Abdul Qayoom Wani who had a name and fame in trade unionism , was unanimously nominated by most of the teachers unions as Chairman JKTJAC, to lead from the front with Gazi Abdul Aziz as deputy, who would act as a care taker in absence of Chairman.
The unity brought it’s fruits when it succeeded with flying colours to play a crucial role in linking the salaries of near about forty thousand teachers to state budget. This historical and significant decision in 2018 was taken by administration after a series of jont protests by JKTJAC. Then immediately after this success, Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani gave volunteer retirement. After the retirement of Abdul Qayoom Wani, Gazi Abdul Aziz continued to go with JKTJAC an organisation which had a success story. But unfortunately some teachers unions disassociated themselves from the the JKTJAC. According to the statement Gazi Abdul Aziz has once again appealed all the teachers unions to leave aside all the differences and join together for the common cause of teachers.
