Alleged rape of minor girl triggers mass anger in J&K’s Rajouri

Jammu: An alleged rape of a minor girl in Budhal area of Kotranka Sub-Division of Rajouri district of Jammu Tuesday triggered a strong wave of rage and anger among local residents, who have demanded stern punishment against the guilty.
Police sources said a minor girl (name withheld) was allegedly raped by a local boy in Budhal village, triggering mass anger in the area.
They said that the incident took place late Monday evening. “The incident was brought into the notice of police after which a case was registered. Police took the cognizance of the matter,” police sources said.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered a mass anger across the district and evoked sharp criticism on social media with people demanding that the culprit be hanged in public. “Hang the culprit,” a netizen wrote on his Facebook Wall in response to a post—‘minor girl raped in Rajouri’.
Moreover, police in a statement issued on Tuesday said that Rajouri police has registered a FIR for rape of a minor girl in Samote village of Budhal area where accused has also been detained within 12 hours of the registration of case.
Police in its official statement said that in the late evening hours on Monday, a complaint regarding sexual assault and rape of a minor girl was received in Budhal police station.
“Taking note, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in police station Budhal and investigation was set into motion.” Chandan Kohli, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri said.
A team from Police Station Budhal headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Som Raj under the supervision of Deputy SP DAR Zaheer Abbas and Additional SP Rajouri Liyaqit Ali succeeded in arresting the accused on Tuesday wee morning hours within 12 hours of the registration of case, he further said.
The accused (name withheld) has been detained by police under relevant sections of law keeping in view Juvenile Justice Act, further investigation in the case is going on, police added
