DC Rajouri convenes meeting regarding finalisation of convergence plan under Poshan Abhiyan

Rajouri: To discuss and finalise the strategy to be adopted in preparation of convergence plan under Poshan Abhiyan, Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, convened a meeting of concerned officers, here Saturday.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Shama-Un Ahmed, Program Officer ICDS, Sher Singh, Assistant Commissioner Development, Sushil Khajuria, Chief Education Officer, Ram Saroop, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sanjeev Puri, District Panchayat Officer, Dr.Abdul Khabir, CDPOs, Women Welfare Officer, Anum Mirza and Administrator OSC, Neetu Sharma.

POSHAN Abhiyan also called as National Nutrition Mission is a flagship program of Government of India to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. It aims to eradicate malnutrition or undernourishment across the country by 2022 by ensuring convergence of various nutrition-related schemes for better and effective delivery to the targeted beneficiaries for attaining better and healthier life.

DC said the main objective behind the formulation of convergence plan under Poshan Abhiyan is to prevent and reduce under-nutrition and stunting in children, reduce the prevalence of anaemia/other diseases among young children, women, adolescent girls and reduce the low birth rate.

He said for the successful and effective implementation of the program in the district, basic data including birth rate, mortality rate, health and nutritional status of the children, women, lactating mothers and adolescent girls, percentage of institutional deliveries etc is a must and directed the concerned officers to provide the same within the shortest possible.

He said special training sessions for the frontline workers of the Health Department, Social Welfare and ICDS involved in the implementation of the said program shall be conducted at regular intervals to make them aware of various aspects of the program so that the desired outcomes can be achieved.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned officers to formulate suitable plans in convergence mode and submit the same as early as possible and also ensure proper implementation of the same at ground level for the larger public interest. He directed the concerned officers to work in tandem so as to uplift the health and nutritional status among the children, pregnant women and lactating mothers to make Rajouri a malnutrition free district.
