Jammu : In a major success, Border Security Force (BSF), the prime border guard of International Border between India and Pakistan in Jammu region, on Saturday foiled a first ever bid of air dropping of arms and ammunition in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district by shooting down an ammunition laden from the Hexa-copter.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Border Security Force said that BSF was regularly receiving inputs of possible use of aerial objects in transportation of arms and ammunition on this side of border after which a high state of alertness was being maintained not only on land but also on air.
“On Saturday morning, alert troops of BSF noticed a suspicious aerial object flying around 100-150 feet high from land in Rathua area of Hiranagar sector of Kathua district after which the object was shot down,” the BSF officers said.
They added that the hexa copter shot dead is an advanced one which can be operated and then de-operated easily and thus easily facilitates the delivery of material.
“The hexa copter shot down weighted around 17-18 kilograms and was examined during which 5-5.5 kilograms of pay load was found attached with the copter which has been seized,” BSF officers said. They added that a highly sophisticated American M4 carbine weapon, sixty bullets and seven grenades were recovered that were attached with the hexa copter.
“The weapon M4 carbine is a highly sophisticated one and it is a point of investigation that how this weapon reached militant groups in Pakistan,” said BSF officers.
“It is a maiden attempt of air dropping of weapons in Jammu along International Border and such reports were available with force after which alert was being observed.” said BSF officers of Jammu frontier.
They added that air dropping of weapons is similar to the kind of air dropping followed in Punjab recently.
“The initial aspects show that any OGW nearby was scheduled to receive the supply of weapons and we are further investigating the matter,” said BSF officers
