Restoring autonomy essential for peace, prosperity, overall development in JK: Dr. Kamal

Srinagar: Hitting BJP led Central Government left, right and centre, National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal Thursday said that senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani always spoke truth about Kashmir. “Whenever Geelani talked about the 17 UN Resolutions about Kashmir, it was based on facts. Geelani always said truth. Situation in Kashmir would have been totally different today, if UN Resolutions had been implemented in letter and spirit. Kashmir was an independent state and it never acceded to India like other States,” Kamal told Reporters on the sidelines of a function held at National Conference Headquarters in memory of two party leaders Sheikh Nazir and Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah.
Kamal alleged that BJP led Central Government murdered the democracy not only in Kashmir but across India. “This party abrogated special status of Jammu and Kashmir without taking elected representatives into confidence and jailed them. It twisted facts and misled people across India. BJP led government is following a different agenda which is totally anti-Muslim in nature and this party betrayed and deceived people of Kashmir,” he said.
Kamal criticized the role of Advisors of Lieutenant Governor saying they are ornamental heads and not representatives of people. “These Advisors who are at the helm of affairs have been given multiple extensions and offered power. The position they enjoy is because of the BJP and not people. People are the ultimate authority and these Advisors who were never representatives of public have no right to stick to the chair,” he said.
He said that BJP is looking Kashmir through the prism of religion and this party is befooling and deceiving people of India and dividing them in the name of religion. “Muslims in India are being targeted, humiliated and lynched. Who can forget the lynching of Iklaq? This party can go to any extent for power. Is India not the country of Muslims?” he questioned.
In response to a question, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said that instead of entering into a dialogue Government of India is harassing political leadership of Kashmir. “Everyday young boys are being killed and claims are made that everything is under control.”
Kamal said that in a democracy government can’t behave like a dictator and entrust anyone with power. “It is shameful to ignore the voice and will of people and disrespect public representatives.”
Kamal said that even experts have maintained that in some aspects Jammu Kashmir Constitution is far better than Indian Constitution. “I am not criticizing the India Constitution because from Indian Constitution, Jammu Kashmir Constitution has adopted so many things but there were experts like Moti Lal, Maulana Syed Masoodi and Mirza Afzal Beigh who said that in various aspects JK Constitution is better than Indian one. The present regime cared a fig for Jammu Kashmir Constitution and did what it liked,” Kamal said
