Anantnag: The militants on Sunday managed to escape after engaging forces in a brief gunfight in PoshKreeri area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials told news agency KNO, that after initial exchange of fire at around 2 am, the search operation was launched by the forces to locate the militants in the area.
However, they said no contact was established with the militants thereafter. Earlier, encounter broke out between government forces and militants after a joint team of forces including 3 RR, CRPF and Anantnag Police launched search operation in the area.
Officials said that as forces intensified search operation towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon forces, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.
Nonetheless, the militants have managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness, they said. Meanwhile, mobile internet services that were snapped in the district as a precautionary measure have been restored while the operation was called off.
Pertinently, today’s bid is the third since April 11 where militants succeeded in breaking the cordon. On May 14, militants managed to escape from a gunfight site in Yambrach area of Yaripora in southern Kashmir’s Kulgam district after brief exchange of fire.
And on April 11, militants managed to give slip to forces after brief exchange of fire in Nandimarg area of Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam district leaving behind a Pikka gun and ammunition—(KNO)
