Srinagar: Two minor girls drowned while three others were rescued in a waterbody in the Srinagar outskirts, official sources said on Tuesday.
They said a group of girls were playing near a small pond, which is adjacent to a stone quarry in Zewan in Srinagar on Monday. “Five girls slipped and fell into the waterbody,” they said, adding a rescue operation was immediately launched.
They said all the girls were rescued though two of them developed breathing problem. “The duo was rushed to Sub District Hospital Pampore, where they were declared brought dead,” they said.
They said after completing all the legal and medical formalities, the bodies of the deceased, identified as Rounak and Rutba, were handed over to their relatives for last rites.
“Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the incident,” they added.
