Srinagar: Principal Secretary School Education Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon on Friday said that Rs 160 crores will be spent on school infrastructure with each district getting Rs 8 Crores government schools this year. He however said that 51 Crores of Rs 66 Crores earmarked for schools in Jammu division have remained unspent in the last financial year. Though unlike Kashmir the Jammu did saw any disturbances like restrictions and lockdowns from August 5 onwards till March beginning last year, but school education department also did not spend huge CSS funds under Samgra Shisha scheme for school infrastructure last year.
Taking to micro blogging social networking site twitter Principal Secretary School Education Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon wrote “DSEJ/ Jmu failed to utilise Rs 51 crore out of Rs 66 crore funds last fin year for critical infrastructure in Jmu Div despite availability of building materials & skilled labor; both directors to utilise Rs 160 crore this year. @ Rs 8 crore each for 20 districts across JKUT”
Meanwhile top sources told Kashmir Horizon that each one of the deputy commissioners have been given Rs 50 Crores for developing school infrastructure under district plans this year. Interestingly this does not include huge CSS funds under Samgra Shiksha funds for infrastructure which were also not utilized in Jammu despite facing no lockdowns and restrictions unlike Kashmir since August last year.
