New Delhi:The central government has extended lockdown by two more weeks, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Friday. The lockdown will be effective from May 4.On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the lockdown called to slow the spread of coronavirus till May 3
The development comes on a day when health ministry figures show the country’s coronavirus figures rose by 1,993 in a span of 24 hours.The figure now stands over 35,000 with 1,147 deaths recorded deaths, the health ministry’s website shows. However there will be considerable relaxations in the districts falling in the Green and Orange Zones, the government said.
Under the new guidelines, a limited number of activities will remain prohibited throughout the country, irrespective of the zone.Travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road will remain banned.Schools, colleges and other educational and training/ coaching institutions; hospitality services, including hotels and restaurants; places of large public gatherings, such as cinema halls, malls, gyms and sports complexes will also stay shut.The government will also not allow social, political, cultural and other kinds of gatherings; and, religious places/ places of worship.Movement of people by air, rail and road will be allowed for select purposes and for purposes as permitted by the home ministry.
