Aqib Mushtaq

We all know, the world is in the grip of the most serious health crisis of our time. The Covid-19 pandemic is reminding us of the vital role of nurses. Health sector cannot perform effectively without profound role of nurses especially in the 21st century.
Nursing is rooted in Altruism that seeks to provide caring, love, and service to those ailed with disease and suffering. It is sacrifice, a sacrifice for the good of the humanity we serve. Nursing is the profession where you see people in white or in scrubs smiling seemingly like angels, rendering care to their clients; little do people know that these very people have sacrificed so much of themselves just to answer that calling to serve humanity and preserve life. Little do people know how their hands save lives, how their words brighten up days and provide hope, how their love for humanity has provided them with the bravery to already risk a part of their selves, all in the name of service and altruism. Nurses don’t work just to have money, they deal with different kinds of people, they set aside their own problem to deal with patient’s problem, they deal with different diseases, they even risk their own life just to save patients lives, even they know that they are dealing with highly infectious patient they still do their best to take care of them. Every day, nurses are putting themselves at risk to alleviate suffering and save lives. As the common saying goes, “a nurse already has one foot at the grave”. It is true. During this pandemic nurses are often the first medical personnel to treat patients suffering from the virus and continuously exposed to it. Even with the looming threat of exposure, these nurses continued to assist patients to the best of their ability. More nurses around the world are becoming infected and we need to show our support for these unwavering heroes and everyone should thank nurses for their “relentless dedication and commitment” to the profession and government should further invest in it. It is not surprising that modern society often fails to respect the nursing professionals to the extent of underplaying their strengths and skills. It is unfortunate to realise the fact that the profession of nursing is not being valued as it is supposed to be . Even when fighting the battle of sickness on the forefront daily , nurses are not even given proper equipments to protect themselves. Even then nurses are working and putting all their blood and sweat into the profession, and to top it off , we are not even being appreciated as a whole community fighting together but the credit has been given to a particular set of people . Its unfortunate for nurses to work under an administration that prioritises their selected valued people over all in this pandemic. But Allah is the one who gives and takes away. So nurses request you all to stay safe and keep praying.
