Nothing new in it that deaths bring grief and shock to the families of those who die due to the reasons other than deadly coronavirous disease as usual day after day but the stress on social distancing and restrictions on travel are leaving the bereaved families in a state of isolation as neither their relations nor sympathizers find it easy to reach them just to stand by them in the hours of trauma and pain. Since the winds of nature blowing in reverse directions are panicking the people with the fear of death due to increasing intensity due to COVID-19 pandemic spread in Kashmir like all other parts of the country, friends and well wishers of bereaved families choose not to visit bereaved families to console them. Isolation in the times of trauma and pain is a test of patience and bereaved families show patience despite finding very few consoling them on separation of their loved ones. Shockingly a journalist of valley reported the request of one of his friends for permission to attend the funeral prayers of his father on micro blogging social networking site face book saying therein in that his friend requesting the permission for attending the funeral prayer of his father was stuck in a quarantine centre in Srinagar. Such short term permissions for leaving the quarantine centres for few hours deserves consideration by the concerned authorities on humanitarian ground and decisions in such situation depends solely on the condition of the concerned in quarantine centre. A son denied the opportunity to attend the funeral prayers while going through quarantine period for a short time of few hours is against the principles of natural justice. Unfortunately death of a Kashmiri accompanied by his family in Kolkatta due to the trauma and pain is very heart wrenching and the immediate shifting of the family mourning the death of their love one thousands of miles away from their relations and sympathizers in Kolkata deserves immediate attention and intervention of the Government.
Under the garb of restrictions on social gatherings the government is pushing several groups of people into a state of trauma and pain and better for the authorities to show flexibility in exceptional cases to ensure that people don’t die of coronavirus but give in battle for life due to mental and physical stress in the ongoing fearful situation.
Reportedly hundreds of people including teenage students are presently stuck in several parts of Jammu region and several parts of the country but authorities are turning a deaf ear to their requests for travel to their homes in Kashmir even after completing the quarantine periods in different health centres.
