New Delhi/April,13:The Covid-19 graph peaked further on Monday with the total cases reaching 9,152 and the deaths reaching past 300.

Between Sunday night and Monday morning, the cases surged by 705 and the deaths rose by 45. The steadily rising disease trend has forced several state governments to extend the ongoing lockdown by two weeks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, is yet to speak on the plan for extension of the national lockdown which ends on Tuesday after 21 days.

Maharashtra tops the Covid disease chart in India with 1,985 cases, followed by Delhi at 1,154 and Tamil Nadu at 1,043.

Kerala, the state that reported India’s first three Covid cases, saw only two cases on Sunday and over 20 recoveries managing to stabilise the peaking disease trends with quick containment and surveillance.

Group of Ministers on Covid, meanwhile, is expected to meet on Monday to take stock of the exponentially growing infection with states racing against time to keep health systems ready when hospitals start filling up with sick people needing ventilators to breathe.

Almost 85 per cent of all COVID patients will recover with mild symptoms; 20 per cent will need hospitalisation and five per cent will need ICU and ventilator support.

Government on Sunday said it had more beds than required but the skewed availability of hospital beds is a concern.
