Srinagar: Former Union Minister Prof Saif Ud Din Soz on Thursday asked the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory Government to leave it for the next popular government to take a call on state subject issues.
In a statement issued on Thursday said though the State Subject Rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir State stood protected under the erstwhile Article 370 of the Constitution of India but the entire question is under the review before the Supreme Court of India.
Soz expressed his dismay over the way the Union Territory Govt. moved a proposal seeking certain changes such as bringing in the persons domiciled in J&K Union Territory, who have been residing here for the last 15 years and who have studied in the erstwhile state for seven years.
Saying that “the present Union Territory Govt. is not entitled to suggest changes and all concerned have to wait till an elected Government. is constituted”, Soz said “ Govt. of India would be well advised not to change the present position in respect of permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and as such it has to wait for the decision of Supreme Court of India, on this matter”.
Saying that Union Territory Govt. has subjected the employment in the J&K Union Territory to an All India Competition which is wrong and cuts across the interests of the eligible candidates belonging to the J&K Union Territory, Soz urged the Union Govt. to maintain the status-quo and discuss the matter with the political parties of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.”
