337 FIRs lodged, 118 shops sealed, 490 vehicles seized, 627 arrested for violations in JK: DGP

Jammu: The Director General of Police Dilbag Singh reiterated his appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to follow the health protocols to help us in fighting the Corona Virus and said police so for sealed 118 shops, siezed 490 vehicles , lodged 337 FIRs and arrested 627 violators. The fight against COVID-19 is not restricted to one organization or one community, it’s time to fight against this deadly disease together, he said, and added that cooperation provided by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, is highly encouraging.

He said the outreach programmes conducted by the JK Police at the grass root level helped in controlling the social/religious gatherings.

The DGP appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to come forward in disclosing their travel history or if they are in contact with such persons. He said there is no harm in disclosing travel details rather it is for the safety and security of the individuals, their families/ relatives and for the communities.

The DGP said last Froday people of J&K understood the need of staying at home and offering prayers from home except few incidents where people come out. He said most people are cooperating in fighting this threat which is posed to the whole world, and have preferred to remain indoors.

He said people should not be afraid but it is the time to be cautious. He said the quarantine centres are ready in every district and added that individuals need to come forward in helping to break the chain. He said the number of positive cases is increasing each passing day but can be reduced to if we fight it together.

He said the J&K Police is providing all possible assistance to the health department, to the civil administration in managing the quarantine centres. He said the police are very strict against the violators of lock down. He said 118 shops, 490 vehicles have been seized for defying the government orders. He said 337 FIRs were lodged against the violators in which 627 persons have been arrested. Most of arrested were later on released after sensitizing them about the threat.

The DGP said all those coming from outside J&K are being quarantined. He said Dial 100 of J&K Police in every district and Union Territory’s Dial 112 are active to help all those who wanted any type of assistance. He said hundreds of people are giving details of those persons who are hiding their travel history. So far more than 1200 people have been traced with the cooperation of general public.

He said for the Police personnel training centres at different locations in the J&K have been activated as quarantine centres. He said Police Hospitals at Srinagar and Jammu have opened many helplines. He said all officers/security agencies including J&K Police have been strictly instructed to follow the health protocol and to prepare quarantine centres at unit levels.

He said police is also using its resources to help all those migrant labourers who have no work these days by providing ration or by organizing it with the help of locals .
