Srinagar: Former Member Parliament Ab Rasheed Shaheen on Wednesday wrote a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee for her intervention in the evacuation of the Kashmiri students presently stranded in neigbouring country Bangladesh. While welcoming the J&K Government’s decision to release wages for the daily wagers he also sought similar sops for the workers of the unorganized sector like artisans and destitutes particularly the handicapped .
In a statement issued here on Wednesday Shaheen while confirming the writing of a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee told Kashmir Horizon “I have written a letter to Mamta Banerjee to urge her to facilitate the road travel of the Kashmiri students stranded in Bangladesh to their homes. They are in distress but no from the government or the opposition is concerned about their safety and security in the prevailing situation”.
Welcoming the J&K government’s decision to release the wages of daily wagers Shaheen urged the J&K Government to offer similar sops to daily rated workers of the unorganized sector like artisans and also the widows and handicapped getting monthly assistance from the social welfare department. He warned that workers of the organized sector, widows, handicapped and destitues can die of hunger in the prevail situation and J&K Government should reach out to them for an early assistance immediately.
