Anand: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that owns brand Amul of milk and other diary products on Sunday said that there was no shortage of milk and appealed people to not to panic amid precautionary measures being taken by the government to contain coronavirus pandemic.
Talking to newsmen here Managing Director of the GCMMF R S Sodhi said, ‘There is no impact of Corona Virus situation on our milk procurement. There is no shortage of milk. Be it Gujarat, MP, West Bengal, Maharashtra, UP or Haryana and Punjab, our milk procurement from lakhs of milk producers is going on as usual. In fact, our milk procurement was 10-12% higher last week. We assure our customers across India that adequate quantity of milk is available and will be available.’
Sodhi also clarified that there are no curbs on movement of milk by the state or central government since it was an essential commodity. The milk producers were a bit concerned as milk was a perishable item but we have made it known to them that the collection of milk from them would continue as usual.
“We assure you that the production of milk, as well as milk products such as dahi, ghee, etc. is as usual. There is no cause of worry,” he said, again urging customers not to resort to panic buying.
