Advisor Khan reviews functioning of WDC, JKRC

Jammu: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan chaired separate meetings to review the functioning of Women’s Development Corporation (WDC) and J&K Rehabilitation Council (JKRC) here Wednesday.
While reviewing functioning of WDC, the meeting was informed that the Corporation disbursed loans to the tune of Rs 25 crore among 1000 women beneficiaries in the year 2019-20 to empower them socio-economically by helping them to set up their own income generation units.
It was given out that the Corporation has disbursed Rs 188 crore loans among 16,224 beneficiaries up to March 31, 2019 since the inception of the Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Khan appreciated the performance of WDC and hoped that more socio-economically backward women would be aided under income generating schemes and programs.
The Advisor also highlighted the need for vibrant mass awareness across the Jammu and Kashmir so that the economically weaker sections of society are benefited.
He also directed the Corporation to conduct various vocational training programs across J&K so that aspiring entrepreneurs would be well acquainted with required skills for running their business units successfully.
On the occasion, Managing Director WDC, Nahida Soz briefed the meeting about the details of the schemes being implemented by the Corporation for the economic empowerment of socially and economically backward women.
The meeting was also informed that the Corporation has conducted 2,166 awareness camps and sensitized 7,58,100 women beneficiaries besides organized 25 mega camps till March 2019.
In year 2019-20, it was given out that 76 awareness camps were organised while sensitizing 26,600 women beneficiaries besides holding three mega camps till March 15 this year.
Earlier, chairing a review meeting of J&K Rehabilitation Council (RC), the Advisor called for mass awareness to reach out to the targeted group regarding different schemes.
The meeting was informed that Rs 7.34 crore upto December 2019 was disbursed among 7,916 registered beneficiaries.
It was given out that 300 Scooties were distributed free-of-cost among physically challenged people preferably among physically challenged students.
The meeting was informed that the Council provides pension to widows/old age parents and physically challenged persons at Rs 1000 each beneficiary per month.
Whereas, Rs 5000 is being provided as tuition fees per annum to militancy victims while as Rs 7000 per annum is being given as hostel assistance for the same.
The meeting was also informed that the Council organizes All India tours for militancy victims through which they are taken to famous cities and historical places across the country.
On the occasion, Advisor Khan said the Council is mandated to provide assistance for physical, psychological and economic rehabilitation of the victims of militancy with special focus on widows, orphans, and handicapped and aged persons whose breadwinner is killed or incapacitated as a result of militancy-related incidents.
He directed the Council to carry out a survey of people affected with militancy who need financial assistance under different schemes.
