Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Wednesday expressed dismay over the prolonged incarceration of its leadership, saying the measure defies all logic and political probity.
A meet of party functionaries which was held here at party headquarters was presided over provincial secretary Showkat Ahmad Mir. On the occasion, speakers who spoke on the occasion decried the prolonged detention of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice president Omar Abdullah and other party functionaries including party general secretary and Provincial president. Among others Srinagar district President Pir Afaq Ahmad also addressed the meet.
a statement issue to KSN reads, while addressing the meet the speakers condemned the prolonged incarceration of Party president Dr Farooq Abdullah, Vice President Omar Abdullah and other leaders.
Provincial secretary Showkat Ahmad Mir while speaking on the occasion said, “It is alarming to see that a veteran, tallest political personality of the state like Dr Farooq Abdullah sahib is not allowed to represent his people in the Lok Sabha. It is shocking to see how a representative voice is not allowed to represent his people in the highest house of the country. It is a dishonour to the people’s mandate.  It is inapprehensible to see a person of his stature, a three time chief minister, a two time union cabinet minister not being allowed to serve his people, who had voted for him to send him to Lok Sahbha,” he said adding, “ Continuous incarceration of J&K’s legitimate, representative voices is politically motivated shorn of any logic.” the statement said.
Speaking on the occasion speakers expressed dismay over the poor state of affairs in J&K, “There is no accountability on ground. Post 5th August every single sector be it economy, administration, and tourism is in shambles. The people especially the poor sections of the society are at the receiving end of all this. The government installations be it hospitals and schools and other pivotal departments, are out of gear. The administrative inertia has beset every sphere of administration and development activity. The losses to the farmers following the incessant snowfall during previous months too weren’t recompensed properly. The roads, arterials and other alleys in urban and rural Kashmir are in shambles. The businessmen, the manufacturers are heaving with debts and innumerable losses since 2014 floods, the situation has only aggravated since with no substantial succour coming from any government quarter.”
A resolution on the occasion was passed seeking immediate release of all political prisoners and scores of other people including scores of students who are languishing in jails since 5th of August 2019. The participants said the incumbent administration should rise up to the occasion to ensure all basic and effective amenities to people across J&K.
Among others Syed Tauqeer, Ahsan Pardesi, G N Bhat, Dr Syed, Ghulam Mohi ud din Mir, Adv Shabir Ahmad Mir, Asiya Ji, J S Azad, Qaisar Jalai were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile party has also expressed grief over the demise of Khateeb e Jummah, close associate of Party president Habib ullah Bhat terming him a god conscious and pious man. The party while extending condolences to the family members prayed for peace to the soul of deceased and strength to the mournful family.  The party functionaries offered Fatiha for the deceased on the occasion the stamen said  (KNS)
