Though restraint during crowd control policing and dialogue over the implementation of citizenship amendment act (CAA) are the only two options before the central government for restoration of normalcy in Delhi particular and other parts of the country in general, but no restraint by the police and no dialogue offer by central government have largely contributed to the recent law and order failures in Delhi the union capital. Experiences of political provocations have only triggered troubles and generated animosities on religious lines in Delhi not once but many a times during last three months of chaos and confusion over the CAA implementation in the country . Fact remains that neither the central government’s drum beating over the implementation of citizenship amendment act (CAA) nor it’s attempts to control the violent mobs through crowd control policing methods have reduced the intensity of anti-CAA protests in Delhi and other parts of the country . As dialogue with all stake holders is only way to bring down the rising tempers of dissenting voices against unilateral implementation of the citizenship amendment act (CAA), the government could have offered a dialogue offer to the anti-CAA protestors in Shaheen Bagh through the mediators appointed recently by the Supreme Court for change of the protest site. Since disrespect to anti-CAA resolutions of the assembly of the non BJP rules states goes against the spirit of democracy, the central government has to understand that tough posturing won’t also over take it nearer to a peaceful resolution over the ongoing CAA controversy intensifying the intensity of violent protests in Delhi the union capital and other parts of the county. An atmosphere of chaos and confusion throwing challenge to national integration, religious harmony and national security by all standards of understandabilities has to end on a peaceful note in the larger national interests.
Since the central government owes too many explanations for the recent law & order failures in Delhi, the restoration of peace is Delhi should be the priority of the Home Minister exercising direct control over Delhi police. The central government can’t evade criticism and condemnation by pointing fingers of suspicion on others without having critical evidence against the accused in hand. The CAA controversy is not the issue over which the central government should try to prove its superiority over the opposition parties and this is the issue demanding a national consensus for the purposes of national integration , national security and religious harmony.
