Youth protest in Srinagar against scrapping of J&K Bank recruitment process

Srinagar: Scores of candidates, who had appeared in examination conducted for various posts of banking associates and Probationary Officers in J&K bank, on Friday protested in this summer capital against scrapping of the recruitment process.

Shouting slogans in favour of their demands, the protestors assembled outside the J&K bank Corporate Headquarters in this summer capital, Srinagar.

However, the protestors said that they are not protesting against bank but against the government, which has ordered scrapping of the recruitment process that has been going on since 2018. “The notification for these posts came out in 2018. It has been over 10 months since we have appeared in the examination,” the protesting candidate said.

They said they are not criticizing the bank as the order was issued by the Union Territory administration of J&K. “Few days back when we inquired about the results, we were assured by the J&K bank authorities that the result will be declared in few days,” they said.

They, however, alleged that the UT administration was forcing the bank to scrap the recruitment process. “If the earlier examination was conducted by IBPS and this fresh examination will also be conducted by them, what will change,” they asked.

They said over 1.5 lakh youth in J&K had appeared for the examination and their future is at stake. “We have been waiting from last about 10 months for the results, which have already been prepared. We don’t understand why they are sitting on the results and now want fresh examinations,” they added.

The State Administrative Council (SAC), headed by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor Girish Chandra Murmu, on Wednesday scrapped the recruitment of 250 probationary officers (POs) and 1,200 banking associates in Jammu and Kashmir Bank due to “various legal infirmities”.

The SAC has asked J&K Bank ‘to initiate a fresh, new, fair norm-based and transparent recruitment process for 250 POs and 1,200 banking associates through the IBPS in a fair and transparent manner’.
