Srinagar: Security was beefed across the Kashmir as a precautionary measure in view of US President Donald Trump’s two-day visit to India, which started today, officials said.
“The decision to strength the security grid was taken in view of accidents in Kashmir during the visit of high profile dignitaries particularly American president in the country in past,” a security official told KNS.
More Mobile bunkers were setup besides area domination exercise was intensified in different areas particularly in south Kashmir.
In 2000, during the visit of former US president Bill Clinton to India, 35 sikhs were killed in Chatisinghpora village Anantnag District The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has appealed to the community members to maintain vigil.
Referring to the 2000 incident, APSCC chairman Jagmohan Sing Raina in a statement on Saturday said, “The visit of a high profile foreign personality, especially that from the US, leads to fear psychosis and panic among the Sikhs living in the Kashmir Valley. The Sikhs are feeling insecure and they fear that something untoward might happen.”
