Baramulla: Police Saturday expressed concern over the local youth joining militant outfits in North Kashmir. “The number is swelling but we are capable of tackling the situation and right now everything is under control,” Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir, Suleman Chowdhary said while addressing a press conference in Baramulla.
The presser according to KNT was called to throw light on the arrest of a local militant Junaid Farooq Pandith. Junaid according to DIG Chowdhary was apprehended near a check-post by combined forces in Tappar area of North Kashmir’s Pattan town.
“We had received information about the movement of the said militant. The operation was successful and we recovered a hinese Pistol, 30 live rounds, and other ammunition from his possession,” he added.
In response to a question, DIG Sulaiman Chowdhary said that the data in their possession reveals that 19 militants are still active in Northern region of Valley. “This number has gone up after local youth have joined militant ranks. It is worrying but Forces are capable of put them in check. We are alert and ready to tackle them,” he added.
