Kathua: A Border Security Force (BSF) officer guarding a forward post along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district Thursday allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle.

An official told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that “An officer posted in Karal Krishna Border Post area along the International Border in Kathua district shot himself with his rifle at around 09:00 am inside his room.”

The deceased BSF officer has been identified as Assistant Commandant V B Yadav of the BSFs 90th Battalion.

A police officer also confirmed the incident, saying the reason behind it was being investigated.

The officer further said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been taken up.

Pertinently, after two such incidents in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, this was the third incident of suicide by soldier in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2020. (KNO)
