To haul away explosive devices, JK Police to procure Total Containment Vessel

Srinagar: In a bid to upgrade its technical capabilities especially those utilized to detect and diffuse bombs including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Jammu and Kashmir Police has decided to procure Total Containment Vessel (TCV) also known as “Truck bomb.” The TCV is used in foreign countries especially United States by the police force to ensure timely detection and diffusing of bombs.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), J&K police is all set to ensure that it gets laced with the TCV so that the threat faced by the force in terms of IEDs and other explosive devices is faced with the technical gadgets.

“Yes, we are procuring TCV soon. It will of the big help when it comes to hauling away explosive devices including IEDs and other bombs,” a police official privy to the development told KNO.

He said that TCV helps in diffusing the explosives without hurting anyone. Asked what the TCV is all about, the official said that essence, a TCV is a chamber that fully contains the pressures and fragments released by an explosive. “Once an explosive is loaded into a TCV, authorities can safely move the bomb from point A to point B without having to shut down or evacuate streets en-route,” he said. “There are many ways of diffusing bombs. Solutions which includes various means are being provided by the company where from the procurement is made.”

The officer said that it was for the first time that J&K police will be procuring such a high-tech vehicle. “Its cost is in crores depending upoun the model, size and the company,” he said.

The police have floated tenders to procure the TCV. The e-tenders floated by the police reads: “Tenders are invited from the authorized manufactures for the supply of TCV.”

“We have floated the tenders and the date of completing formalities has been extended upto February 12 for opening of bids,” a police official at the police headquarters told KNO. He said that J&K police is procuring many hi-tech gadgets that include Remote Operating Vehicles (RoVs), a helicopter, a bomb inhibitor and TCV. “This all is to give a major boost to our technical capabilities to face challenges on militancy front effectively,” the official said. (KNO)
