Restoration of Malshahi-Bagh water canal: Div Com directs to expedite work on war footing, double shift basis

SRINAGAR: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today directed concerned engineers to expedite restoration work on Malshahi- Bagh water canal on war footing and asked them to work in double shift.

He directed the concerned officials to complete the restoration work by February 15.

The Div Com was chairing a meeting to review the restoration work on Malshahi- Bagh water canal.

The meeting was informed that breach in the Malshahibagh water canal, the main source of raw water to various areas including Rangil (WSS), Alesteng(WSS),Hadoora, Shuhama and Bakoora, occurred on December 2 and the restoration work was immediately taken up.

To monitorthe pace of restoration work on daily basis, the Divisional Commissioner directed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbalto involve Panchs of the adjoining areas of Malshahi- Bagh water canal.

The DC Ganderbal was asked to submit fortnightly report to the Divisional Commissioner’s office in this regard.

The meeting was further informed that the National Institute of Technology (NIT) has conceptualized and formulated a design for permanent restoration of Malshahi- Bagh water canal.

Director NIT was asked to ensure periodical inspection of restoration work on the water canal and to send fortnightly feedback to the Div Com office.

Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) and PHE departments were directed to submit a financial implication proposal for permanent restoration of Malshahi- Bagh water canal and for procurement of material in advance, for any future exigency.

The Divisional Commissioner stressed engineers to work with synergy and dedication for timely completion of restoration work on water canal so that consumers do not face water scarcity.

Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar &Ganderbal, Chief Engineer PHE, Superintending Engineers of I&FC, PHE, Hydraulic & Rural water supply, Senior officer of NIT, Assistant Commissioner (central) with Div Com and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
