Srinagar: Two persons including a Sarpanch and a government official were killed while as at least three people sustained injuries after two powerful explosions rocked Hazratbal area of Srinagar and South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Police said that in the afternoon, a low-intensity explosion took place outside the Kashmir University’s Sir Syed Gate in Hazratbal area. “Three persons sustained injuries and all were stable.
One of the injured was shifted to SMHS hospital where he was given a first aid and discharged immediately,” a police officer told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He said that the samples have been collected from the site of blast to ascertain the nature of the explosion. “It was aimed to scare the people. We are not sure that it was a grenade,” the officer said.
Barely two hours after the Hazratbal incident, a power explosion had that of a grenade rocked Hakoora area of Badasgam, Achabal in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A Police officer told KNO that two persons sustained critical injuries in the blast and both succumbed later. The slain were identified as Sarpanch Muhammad Rafiq and an employee working with the Agriculture department, Sheikh Zahoor Ahmed.
“The grenade explosion took place outside Panchayat ghar and was also followed by firing in the area,” the police officer said. Soon after the twin incidents, police sealed Hazratbal and Hakoora area and a massive manhunt was launched in the area. (KNO)
