Srinagar: Amid the visit of European Union (EU) lawmakers to Jammu and Kashmir to get updated about the ground situation, regional mainstream party National Conference (NC) on Tuesday termed the visit as “absurd,” and “meaningless’.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), National Conference (NC) leader and sitting parliamentarian from South Kashmir Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi termed the visit as absurd. He said, “Though it is a welcome step by some outside delegation to know the ground realities but generally it is a meaningful exercise”.
Masoodi said, “It is height of dishonesty that we mainstream political parties have not been informed and invited. We are detained, caged and confined and have been kept far away from the development”.
NC leader termed the visit “meaningless” and said if government of India was sincere then it should have invited common people whom delegation should have talked. He added it is very unfortunate that we have been elected democratically and represents the aspirations of people but we too have been kept away to meet the delegation.
He said, “The EU lawmaker’s delegation visit seems objective-less. The group is not officially mandated to visit Jammu and Kashmir. EU Parliament had already clarified that the said delegation is visiting Jammu and Kashmir on its own capacity and has no such official mandate. Whatever they will do, that would not be taken into official”.
Masoodi said, “It is actually some New-Delhi based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) who facilitated the said visit”. He further added, “Though leaders of NC like me and Mohammad Akbar Lone had already initiated such steps in recent past, but that didn’t yield any positive result”. (KNS)
