Abstinence of PDP MPs on Triple Talaq: Revolt or hidden collaboration?

Abstinence of two PDP MPs’ on triple talaq bill in Rajaya Sabha early this week was though apparently a violation of the party whip as the Party President Mehbooba Mufti had gone on record to say that her party MPs’ would vote against the bill but the half hearted action of Mehbooba against her party’s two Rajaya Sabha members apparently shows that PDP is yet break its political collaboration with BJP. Issuing a show cause notice is nothing more than giving a tactical escape route to the two Rajaya Sabha members on violating the party whip as otherwise the violation of the whip by two parliament members demands more string action and even termination from the party’s basic membership. If voting of PDP MPs’s against the triple talaq bill won’t stop its passing in the Rajaya Sabha but both the MPs could have put on record their opposition against the bill as promised by their party president. Interestingly Mehbooba Mufti as Chief Minister dropped Haseeb Drabu from her cabinet for saying that Kashmir is a socio-economic issue and terminated his party colleague Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on charges of anti-party activities, but she did not dare to expel the two MPs from the party for violating the whip by not voting against the triple talaq bill in Rajaya Sabha. It may be recalled here that almost more than two decades back National Conference President Farooq Abdullah had expelled his party’s Member Parliament Prof Saif-Ud-Din Soz for violating the party whip by voting in favour of non confidence motion against the then Attal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA Government at the centre.
Though a single vote collapsed the then BJP led NDA government headed by Vajpayee but Farooq Abdullah expelled Saif Ud Din Soz for violating the whip against the BJP the party which while in power at the centre for the last five years takes all measures to push the people of Kashmir to the wall for the last more than three years. So Farooq Abdullah punished Soz for the right decision in violation of party whip but ironically the PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti plans to spare her party MPs for not voting against the triple talaq Bill in violation of party whip. So PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti tends to appease BJP over the violation of party whip by her party MPs the way Farooq Abdullah appeased BJP by punishing his one time party MP Saif Ud Din Soz for voting against BJP. By all standards of understandabilities both Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah by the dint of their actions have proved it beyond doubt that the appeasement of BJP is more dearer to them than the violation of party whip by their party MPs.
