Reasi : District Administration Reasi launched the second phase of rigorous Jal Shakti Abhiyan here Thursday.
The second phase of the ambitious project was inaugurated by Secretary to Government, Cooperatives and Tribal Affairs Department, Abdul Majid Bhat in presence of Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib.
The event was kick started by inauguration of work of a traditional bowli at panchayat Garhi of block Jij by Abdul Majid Bhat. He later inaugurated works of a new pond at panchayat Chinkah of block Thakrakote.
Under the new phase, 300 water conservation projects will be taken up in all panchayats of the district under MGNREGA, IWMP and 14 FC. The phase has been dedicated to renovation of traditional water bodies, construction of ponds, wells, water harvesting tanks and irrigation kuhls. In coming days, 700 more works related to water conservation will be taken up under RDD in convergence mode. All these works will be completed by October2019.
In the first phase, termed as “One Adult One Percolation Pit”, about 16000 pits were dug out in the district under MGNREGA as well as shramdan by officers, officials, PRI members as well as large number of locals.
The Secretary, who has also been appointed as Officer Incharge of district Reasi, later took part in a public darbar at Garhi, in which he along with the DC listened to public grievances. Issues pertaining to roads, education, livestock, Aadhaar Centres etc were raised, many of which were addressed on the spot. The Secretary also urged people to benefit from various schemes initiated by the state government. He also urged Scheduled Tribe community to benefit from various education schemes being run for ST students.
The Officer Incharge promised the tribals of the area of another visit within a fortnight for holding awareness camp to make them aware about all the schemes meant for them.
