Srinagar: Authorities on Thursday retrieved the body of an eight-year-old boy from river Jehlum in Shilwat, Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Eyewitnesses said that body of the boy was fished out from river Jehlum at Shilwat Sumbal, a day after he drowned.
He had drowned along with another boy in Jehlum on Wednesday morning after they slipped into it. One among them was rescued by locals while the boy of another was fished out Thursday. Official sources said that soon after the incident; a team of Army divers was called by the administration to conduct search operation in the river.
However, Thursday morning they started the operation and recovered the body. A senior police officer confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Mohammad Shafi Bajran, son of Abdul Rashid Bajran of Kalakoot Rajouri.
Officer further said that after legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
