4 school buses, 3 tippers seized in Kathua for violations

Kathua: The Motor Vehicles Department Kathua has seized 4 school buses and 3 tippers, besides compounding scores of other vehicles for violation of various provisions of law.
According to the MVD officials, a team led by Regional Transport Officer, Dr. Raj K. Thapa seized the vehicles during a massive three-day drive and recovered a fine to the tune of Rs 3.40 lakh from the violators. During the drive, the team checked 405 Vehicles of which 94 were challaned and 41 were compounded.
The vehicles operating as school buses were special focus of the drive. Four vans/buses operating as school buses without following guidelines of Supreme Court Committee on road safety related to School buses were seized.
The enforcement team comprised of Assistant Regional Transport Officer, MVIs, Vikas Srivats, Kamal Kumar, Ravinder Kumar, Shamsher Singh, Pawan, Rakesh and Rasal.
The team also visited Bani and Billawar areas where a total of 135 Vehicles were checked out of which 45 were challaned, 14 were compounded, and one vehicle was seized under section 66/192-A, 113/194, 39/192, 66/192A, 3/181, 56/192, 146/196, 190(II), 177, 129/177, and 207 of Motor Vehicle Act and section 18 of Passenger Tax Act, 1963.
Meanwhile Regional Transport Officer, Kathua also issued notices for suspension of permits under section 166/192-A of MV Act to owners of Vehicle No. JK08C-4447, JK02AT-5330, JK08A-9806, JK08B-2067 and JK21-3780. In addition, sixteen persons were issued notices for suspension of Driving Licenses under MV Act for various acts of irresponsible driving. A total of eight Driving Licenses have been suspended and one Driving License has been revoked/cancelled under section 19 sub-sec.1(e) of MV Act during current year.
