Secy PHE discusses water conservation modalities with experts in Jammu

Jammu: A meeting to discuss Water Conservation plan under ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ was held Saturday which was chaired by Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Ajeet Kumar Sahu.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Er. Vinod Kumar Gupta, Director CCDU, Er. P.N Gupta, Principal, Government Polytechnic Jammu Er Arun Bangotra, SE PHE, Mechanical Urban Circle Jammu, Er Inderjeet Singh, HOD Civil Eng and faculty of Government Polytechnic Jammu.
The meeting started with presentation by Government Polytechnic Jammu on various Technologies of Water Conservation.
Addressing the meeting, Ajeet Kumar Sahu stressed on spreading awareness on various water conservation technologies among the masses by a campaign “Wake up for Water” through social media. It was decided that Government Polytechnic Jammu in collaboration with Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Department of PHE, I&FC will act as Technologies Promoters among masses in Rural and urban areas for Water Conservation Techniques.
Sahu gave directions to the Principal of the College to prepare a catalogue of available technologies/solutions for water conservation and costing of each Technology for different regions of Jammu as per topography and need.
He also directed Principal, Government Polytechnic Jammu and Director CCDU to prepare working models of Rainwater Harvesting Technology, Thermal insulations of water Tanks, Gravel and Sand Technology for reuse and recycle of Grey water waste from house hold Bathrooms and kitchens.
The harvested and recycled water shall be reused for gardening, irrigation, washing, increasing the ground water level etc thereby conserving the water. CCDU, Department of PHE, I&FC shall provide the support to the college in preparing these working models and shall also organize awareness programmes to implement rainwater harvesting measures and Gravel and Stone Technology as a mass programme. It was decided in the meeting that Government Polytechnic Jammu shall act as Center of Water Conservation and Harvesting and will provide the consultancy to the masses in installation of Water Harvesting and other techniques in house hold. The students of the college shall also be trained and benefited by these technologies thorough various training programmes.
