Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday formally ordered the appointment of retired IPS officer Farooq Khan, as Advisor to the Governor Satya Pal Malik. A government order issued from the General Administration Department reads ‘ Sanction is hereby accorded to the appointment of Farooq Khan, IPS (Retd), as Advisor to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir with effect from the date he assumes charge.His appointment shall be governed by the terms and conditions as are applicable to other Advisors in terms of Government Order No. 1110-GAD of 2018 dated 09-07-2018.”
Farooq Khan, who was serving as Lieutenant Governor in Lakshadeep, has resigned from the post two days before. Khan, a 1994-batch IPS officer, retired in 2013. He joined the BJP ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and was given key positions, including the charge of the party’s minority cell and North East Affairs. Khan had played a key role in the creation of counter-insurgency Special Operations Groups (SOG) to fight militancy in the State.
